Let's look at this month's layout sketch

Hello,

Thanks for being here for the first 'look at this month's layout sketch' blog post.

This month’s sketch is quite a simple one for me. If you’ve seen any of my journal pages, you will know I like to throw a lot at a page! But this layout pushed me out of my comfort zone and I had to hold myself back from adding more. So let's jump in and take a look at this month's sketch.

1 - firstly we've got some embellishments. I love layering up embellishments. Use washi tape as a base and then build up with punched shapes, stickers, enamel dots, or whatever you want, get as creative as you can!

2 - add your journaling around the photo. You could also use word or phase embellishments, or a mix of both. This is great because it doesn't matter how much or how little journaling you do. The two layouts I did, one had a lot of journaling and the other not very much. I will explain later what I thought about this.

3 - use patterned paper here to add colour. Again this will help frame the photo, add colour and you've just got to have some patterned paper! Definitely use a paper that makes the photo stand out more and not get lost.

4 - I've made the photo the central focus in this layout. Having it framed by the journaling will help it stand out and of course the colour backdrop of the patterned paper

5 - I always add dates to my journal pages. I don't journal chronologically, so I feel dating the photo is very important. I want to be able to look back in years to come and know when all these memories happened and even more years, when the boys' are looking back and sharing their childhood memories with their families. I would love to know if you date your pages? Maybe you journal in order and don't feel you need to date every page. Let me know.

6 - add a lovely bold title or phrase at the bottom to compliment the page. Maybe you can put a feeling that explains the photo in one or two words. Its only recently that I started adding a title to all my pages and now I feel my page isn’t finished until I add one. I think it really brings the page together. Again I would love to hear your ideas on titles, do you add them to your layouts? Maybe you don't like them for some reason, or put them on some pages and not on others. I would love to hear from you.

You can watch me create both these pages in my 'Journal With Me' episode this Friday (25th March) at 6pm (gmt) on my YouTube channel.

I'll be back next week for another new blog.

Take care.
